KAHANI Review

First have to congratulate Vidya Balan for receiving the national award for her character and the role she portrayed in “The Dirty Picture”. Kudos to her it was my first ‘Vidya Balan’ movie to be seen on the big screen but then she didn’t capture my attention or any type of fantasy. But things of the past should not be revoken from the dead its better left at peace six feet under. And having said so I would like to add on that the my second movie of the national award winner just set me smiling with proud that this girl from a small town in Kerala has made all malayalees proud!!!!!!!!!

The movie ‘kahani’ does seriously tell a story about the last heroes of the war against terrorism in a subtle yet strong manner. The way the character and her life through the streets of the city of kolkata has been capture to the best possible manner sets the movie into a different genre in Indian cinema. The movie revolves around two stronger invisible characters “Milan damji” and “bagvchi”. It at times feels as if the lady in the movie is more of a supporting character to these two invisible heroes. The camera has been handled in the best possible manner and it feels as if you are a part of the city streets and its celebrations. The movie has captured my attention because every element in the movie has been given equal importance be it real world entity, alive or dead, visible or invisible. The suspense and the thrill associated with the every character have been kept without breaking any hopes till the end. If you see through the movie you may notice that the cast of the movie is full of new comers into the industry but then again they have done the best honor to the character given to them.

“Mr Khan” and “Rana” does the most supreme justice to Vidya by supporting her throughout her search for her husband and the inspector adding on the comic. The thought that `The pregnant woman is the most harmless woman in the city` is just bluntly contradicted by Vidya and I have fallen in love with her for that reason. At times you will feel as if you are also searching for mrs. Bagchi husband. Vidya’s angelic beauty and sweetness has been used in the best possible manner to feel close to the character, which I doubt currently any actress in the industry could have done. Just her one sentence “Ithetha Ithetha” throughout the movie will get any south Indians attention to the fact that her character is a Tamilian fallen in love with Kolkata and her Bengali husband who is lost. The dresses she has worn though out the movie would certainly change the style of dressing for a woman who is pregnant. The boots give her the proper attire of a woman from London whereas the free flowing gowns give her the Indian look. Every mode of transport available in the city has been used shows in the depth the movie has fallen into to get in the right essence of the search.

2 hours and 15 minutes sitting it the dark theater watching on the screen, finally when I come out to the real world from the exit door I just feel as I left someone inside “VIDYA BALAN”. A person I am in love with currently. And as a little piece of advice I would say watch the movie with your friends who are movie addicts and rather than with your loves, because they might feel lonely with you too encapsulated into the flick or you might lose the flow due to you know what “I MEAN”.
